Wings Airways Earns Sustainability Certification

July 26, 2019– Juneau-based Wings Airways & the Taku Lodge announced today that they have been designated as an Adventure Green Alaska (AGA) Certified Business.  AGA is a voluntary certification program of the Alaska Travel Industry Association (ATIA) for tourism businesses operating in Alaska that meet standards of economic, environmental and social sustainability.

“Our team is thrilled to receive the AGA certification,” said Holly Johnson, President of Wings Airways.  “With a business focused on the incredible natural beauty surrounding Juneau, we are determined to keep it pristine and sustainable.”

The AGA certification was granted after Wings completed a comprehensive application and review process, including the development of the company’s formal sustainability policy.  Wings’ sustainability policy documents its commitment to environmental, economic, social and cultural sustainability.  To achieve certification, the company had to illustrate its goals and practices with respect to sustainability and how these are woven into daily operations.

“We may not be what people think about when you think of “green” businesses, but that doesn’t mean we cant do better.  The process allowed us to formalize our approach to sustainability and better educate our staff and guests about our sustainable tourism practices,” said Johnson. “We review every aspect of our business and made the concerted effort to do what we can to improve our footprint.  Receiving the certification is an important step in our ongoing commitment to growing our sustainability practices.”
